I cannot bear it here any longer, Devdas. But talking to my parents, they’ve told me that Sarat Chandra is not famous for being a particularly good writ I was initially very unimpressed with the selections in this book, particularly because Sarat Chandra is so very famous amongst Bengalis.

Remarkably, Devdas is less of a depressing read than a riveting, touching one.
She loves him nonetheless. Now I’m excited to watch the s version directed by Bimal Roy. I was disappointed of course.
I often feel like women in India are the victim chattipadhyay so many cliches- one just has to look at the jokes, in which the wife is portrayed as a silly, managing woman and the husband a victim of marriage- and so am surprised that this author was so different.

It is the story of Devdas and Paro, childhood sweethearts who are torn apart when Devdas is sent away to Calcutta by his father, the local zamindar.
In that light, the stories I read here are much more palatable. Had I given all this up on an impulse, perhaps a little more caution might be necessary, but I have not felt a moment’s regret in all this time.

However, it is interesting to note that, this film, when it hits the screen on April 27, will be the 17th time the doomed love story of Devdas Mukherjee, Parvati or Paro and Chadramukhi plays out on the silver screen. They made me start to speak. However it took a Dilip Kumar to catapult this classic Indian tale of love, longing and failure into stratosphere.
